Questions

Frequently asked questions

Short answers. If your question is not here, or it is about what is deductible for you, ask your accountant.

Receipts

  • Is a photo of my receipt enough?

A photo is a good copy and saves you when the thermal paper fades. Whether you must also keep the paper original depends on the rules for digital storage. Ask your accountant before you throw anything away.

  • How long do I have to keep my receipts?

That is set by law and can differ by type of document. Bon does not give a number as fact: ask your accountant. The Explained page lists the official sources.

  • Can I add a PDF invoice too?

Yes. Drag the PDF into the box or choose ‘Choose file’. A PDF stays as it is, a photo is made smaller by Bon.

  • Does Bon read the text on my receipt?

No. You type in the date, the shop and the amounts yourself. That way the photo goes nowhere to be read, and you know for sure what it says.

VAT and deduction

  • Why do I have to fill in the VAT per rate?

Because a receipt can have several rates, and your accountant works per rate. If everything is at one rate, it is a single click: ‘All at 21 %’.

  • Is the VAT that Bon shows deductible?

Not always. Bon adds up the VAT on your receipts and shows an indication based on your own estimates per type. Your accountant decides what is deductible.

  • I am under the small business VAT exemption scheme. Is Bon any use to me?

Yes, you still have to keep your receipts. You won’t need the VAT indication: set your estimates to 0 % or simply ignore it.

About Bon

  • Where are my receipts and photos?

Only in the browser on this device, in its own storage. There is no account and nothing goes to a server. So make a backup now and then under ‘Accountant’.

  • How do I get my receipts onto my computer?

Make a backup on your phone and open that file on your computer via ‘Restore a backup’. Syncing between devices will come later, with a Bureel account for those who want it.

  • Does Bon cost anything?

No. Bon is free, with no account and no ads. It is an app by nealvdv from the Bureel family.

Bon explains and adds up, but gives no tax or legal advice. What is deductible and how long you keep something is for your accountant to decide.
